Basics of Router

Hi all,

Today we will see about basics of router, later will discuss in detailed about it.

Router :

The Router is to route the traffic or data from one geographical area or network to another geographical are or network.

It involves two basic activities:

1. Determining optional routing paths.

2. Transporting information groups through an internetwork.

It has several components

DRAM, NVRAM,Flash,ROM,console,auxilliary and interfaces.

ROM

Random access memory (ROM),it is used to store routers bootstrap startup program, operating system software, and test programs.

It has several components in router

1. POST (Power on self test)

Whenever the router is switched ON, a self test is made with all physical interfaces, and also provides information about the status whether ON or OFF.

2. BSL (Boot strap loader)

The booting will be decided whether to boot from normal mode or ROMMON mode.

3.  MINI IOS

A minimum or duplicate copy of a CISCO IOS is used to configure router.

Flash Memory

It is erasable, reprogrammable ROM.flash content is retained when you switch OFF or restart the router.

4. DRAM

Dynamic RAM is used to store operational information such as routing tables, routers running configuraion file.RAM also provides cache files and packet buffering capabilities.

5. NVRAM

Non-volatile RAM is used to route the routers start up configuration file.it does not lose data when power is switched off.

Wireless topologies

Hi all, Today we will see about different LAN technologies, Wireless wide area network (WWAN) A WWAN covers a broad range and geographical boundaries but obviously uses a wireless medium. It accesses T-mobile,verizon and vodaphone and a variety of competing technologies to carry data by cellular technologies. Examples of these GPRS,CDMA,TDMA,and GSM. Many of them might be knowing these concepts and meaning, but my work is only for general beginners and overlay of concepts.i do the post for  the above. GPRS - General packet radio switching CDMA - Code division multiple access. TDMA - Time division multiple access. GSM - Global system for mobile communication. Data rates and bandwidth using these technologies are slow when compared to  802.11 wireless technologies. Wireless metropolitan network (WMAN) It covers the suburbs and metropolitan cities.it is associated with 802.16 standard, defines broadband wireless access and it sometimes referred as world...

Frequency bands and telecommunication

Hi all, Today we are going to see the telecommunication and its bands. you might aware of these, and of course you also think why we connect from networks to telecommunication. yes,  we have to depend both, and we want to also know about the telecommunication and its bands. We start with,    2.4 GHz ISM band The 2.4 GHz is the commonly used band used for wireless networking communications.it has 83.% wide and life from 2.40 GHz to 2.4835 GHz ISM band. This uses 2.4 GHz ISM band under the wireless networks 802.11 standard and there are three major networks in 802.11 we will see in detail about 802.11 later in next post 1. 802.11 2. 802.11b 3. 802.11 g Mostly 2.4 GHz ISM band used in microwave ovens, cordless telephones, monitors and wireless video coamera. The biggest disadvantage is the potential of tolerance, means it cannot hold the full load in normal conditions. x-axis spread spectrum signal y-axis power sinusoidal frequency - narrow and sig...
