Hi all,
Today we will see about different LAN technologies,
Wireless wide area network (WWAN)
A WWAN covers a broad range and geographical boundaries but obviously uses a wireless medium. It accesses T-mobile,verizon and vodaphone and a variety of competing technologies to carry data by cellular technologies.
Examples of these GPRS,CDMA,TDMA,and GSM.
Many of them might be knowing these concepts and meaning, but my work is only for general beginners and overlay of concepts.i do the post for the above.
GPRS - General packet radio switching
CDMA - Code division multiple access.
TDMA - Time division multiple access.
GSM - Global system for mobile communication.
Data rates and bandwidth using these technologies are slow when compared to 802.11 wireless technologies.
Wireless metropolitan network (WMAN)
It covers the suburbs and metropolitan cities.it is associated with 802.16 standard, defines broadband wireless access and it sometimes referred as world wide interoperability for microwave
access(WiMax). It is responsible for testing if wireless broadband equipments.
Wireless Personal area network (WPAN)
It is the network used for the communication between computer devices and close proximity of the user.Devices such as laptops, personal digital assistants (PDA's) and telephones will communicate with each other for different wireless technologies.it is also used for communication between devices or portals to high-level networks such as LAN and/or the internet. The most common technologies in wireless personal area networks are bluetooth and infrared.
Infrared is a light-based medium, while bluetooth is radio frequency medium uses frequency hopping spread spectrum technology
Wireless local area network (WLAN)
The 802.11 standard defines the wireless local area network. The 802.11 is used for local area networking due to the range and speeds that are defined by 802.11 and its amendment. WLAN,s make use of 802.11 connected by wired network backbone.they are typically used to provide end users access to network services and gateway to the internet.
802.11 topologies :
The main component of 802.11 is the radio card, which can be defined as station (STA).the radio card can reside inside an access point as client station.the 802.11 has three different topologies
service sets, which describes radio cards may be used to communicate with each other. The three 802.11 topoloiges are
Basic service set (BSS)
Extended service set (ESS)
Independent basic service set (IBSS)
Examples of nonstandard topologies are bridging, repeating,
workgroup bridging and mesh networking.
